8-Year Journey in Playground Design and Construction Across Texas
Our Journey of Growth and Gratitude
Eight years of play, partnership, and progress. Since opening our doors in November 2017, Whirlix Design has been dedicated to playground design and construction that brings the value of play to communities across North and Central Texas. Today, as we celebrate this milestone, we're overwhelmed with gratitude for the journey we've shared with so many incredible people in this industry.
To our clients and partners (landscape architects, municipalities, schools, developers, and fellow professionals), you've trusted us with your vision for creating spaces where communities gather, children explore, and memories are made. You've collaborated with us to turn concepts into reality. To the communities we've served, thank you for welcoming our work into your neighborhoods, schools, and parks.
These eight years have been more than a timeline of projects completed. They've been a journey of growth, learning, and evolution. We've expanded our capabilities, deepened our expertise, and discovered new ways to serve the communities that have supported us. As we look back at the meaningful work we accomplished in 2025, we're also looking forward with excitement to what's next.
The outdoor recreation industry is filled with passionate, visionary people who understand that the spaces we create together have a lasting impact. We're honored to be part of this community, and we're energized about where we're headed next.
Looking Back: 2025 Playground Design and Construction Highlights
This year brought incredible opportunities for playground design and construction projects that created meaningful play spaces across North and Central Texas. From revitalizing century-old parks to designing cutting-edge playgrounds for growing communities, each project reflects our commitment to innovation, quality, and community impact. Here are some of the spaces we're most proud to have brought to life in 2025.
Old Celina Park – Celina, Texas
This state-of-the-art play space honors Celina's rich agricultural heritage through custom design elements that make it one of North Texas's most unique community playgrounds. The towering custom three-tower main structure features interconnected play areas, a Crab Trap® net climbing structure, and a three-bay ZipKrooz® for exciting zip line fun. Multi-colored turf surfacing designed to resemble wheat fields ties the entire space to the community's farming roots, while farm animal-themed elements including cows and ducks spark imaginative play. Combined with an interactive splash pad, dedicated areas for ages 2-5, and full accessibility for ages 2-12, Old Celina Park showcases how thoughtful playground design and construction can blend innovation with local culture.

Fairview Park – Sherman, Texas
This beloved 100-year-old community treasure in Sherman has been completely revitalized through our partnership with the City of Sherman Parks and Recreation, Landscape Structures, and Valley Quest Design. The innovative playscape features exciting elevation changes with custom berm play that sparks imaginative adventures, alongside a towering main structure incorporating unique play elements. Every playground design and construction choice blends modern play concepts with the park's historic charm. The journey began with a Landscape Structures PLAY Tour in July 2023 and culminated in the grand reopening celebration in March 2025. The $1.8 million investment has transformed this historic space into a modern playscape while honoring the park's century-long legacy of community memories.

Queen Margaret Park – Lewisville, Texas
This project marked a significant milestone as our first completed under a new turnkey management model utilizing the BuyBoard contract. Located in the Castle Hills Community in Lewisville, this neighborhood park transformation replaced a very old design with modern play experiences. The challenge was significant: complete the entire project outside regular school sessions within a tight 67-day window. Whirlix managed all aspects, including demolition, excavation, drainage, fencing, and landscaping, delivering the project one day early so school children could enjoy the new playground on their first day back.
Equipment highlights include the popular We-Go-Swing® and attractive shade structures that enhance the overall aesthetic. What made this design-build project particularly successful was our ability to work from a conceptual drawing and quickly solve field condition challenges. Marcus Gallegos, Assistant Director for the City of Lewisville, shared: "The civil construction scopes for Queen Margaret Park turned out excellent. The quality of work met and often exceeded our expectations, with strong attention to detail and craftsmanship throughout. Any concerns that arose were addressed quickly and effectively, keeping the project on track. Compared to other general contractors, the work was equal to or better in both quality and consistency. Having one company manage all scopes made coordination smoother, communication clearer, and the overall experience much more efficient and positive."

First Woodway Baptist Church – Woodway, Texas
This Phase 2 preschool playground project brought new life to a deteriorating play space, giving the church's youngest members an opportunity to experience exceptional play equipment. The Hedra Scout proved to be the perfect complement to the Phase 1 main playground, specifically designed for the preschool age group. Space constraints and plumbing lines running through the area presented unique challenges, which we solved by using surface mount equipment paired with well-designed shade structures. The result is a "cool" new playground that serves the preschool community with safe, age-appropriate equipment that sparks imagination and active play.

Steeple Chase Park – Kyle, Texas
This modern, family-friendly playground in Kyle features innovative play equipment perfect for kids ages 2-12. The Hedra® and Hedra Scout play structures let kids navigate through endless climbing routes and invent their own games, while the star attraction is the ZipKrooz® two-way zipline that kids ages 5-12 love for its ultra-smooth ride going both directions. Located in the family-oriented Steeplechase community, shaded play areas and turf surfaces create comfortable, safe spaces for creative play, physical activity, and outdoor adventure throughout the year.

Prestonwood Christian Academy Prosper Campus – Prosper, Texas
This collaborative project between the church and school brought together funding and vision to create multiple age-appropriate playgrounds for PCA Prosper's campus, serving students from preschool through high school. Working within a narrow footprint, we expanded into an adjacent grassy area, eliminating dividing fencing to fit a large 5-12 structure packed with play value while maintaining a cohesive design aesthetic across all play spaces. A key achievement was excavating and adding retaining walls to create a zero-entry playground, ensuring easy accessibility for students in wheelchairs or with mobility impairments. Managing this turnkey project from start to finish, we collaborated with the fencing contractor to integrate fencing into the retaining walls and completed everything on an accelerated timeline to open before school started. Each play space features shade coverage, ensuring comfortable play year-round.

Fern Bluff Mud – Round Rock, Texas
This comprehensive partnership showcased our ability to transform an entire park system, with the complete renovation of six playgrounds throughout 2025 (plus one additional playground completed in December 2024). What makes this project special is the diverse range of play experiences created across the district, with each park offering something unique to accommodate different ages and abilities. Beyond playground renovations, we added fitness elements for adults at several locations, creating multi-generational spaces where families can be active together. The improvements have been embraced with overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community. With shade structure additions planned for early 2026, this ongoing partnership with Fern Bluff MUD demonstrates the power of working with clients who share a vision for making meaningful community impact through improved parks and play spaces.

Evolution of Our Playground Design and Construction Expertise
Our approach to playground design and construction has evolved significantly
over eight years. These projects represent something deeper than exceptional playground installations. They showcase an exciting evolution in how we serve our clients and communities. Queen Margaret Park and Fern Bluff MUD demonstrate what's possible when a partner can manage comprehensive project scope and multiple concurrent projects.
At Queen Margaret Park, our team coordinated demolition, excavation, drainage, fencing, and landscaping alongside the playground installation. We delivered a complete, turnkey solution on an aggressive timeline, finishing ahead of schedule. At Fern Bluff MUD, we managed the complete renovation of six playgrounds throughout 2025, coordinating design, procurement, and installation across multiple park locations simultaneously while ensuring each space offered unique play experiences. The feedback has been clear: having one team accountable for managing multiple scopes and projects creates smoother coordination, clearer communication, and better outcomes.
This expanded capability didn't happen overnight. It grew from listening to our clients and understanding the challenges they face when coordinating multiple contractors across different project phases and locations. Our team has developed the expertise and systems to take on comprehensive project scopes, manage multiple concurrent projects, and we're genuinely excited about what this means for future partnerships.
The reality is that playground design and construction requires more than great equipment. They need thoughtful site preparation, proper drainage, quality concrete work, and careful attention to how all the elements work together. When one knowledgeable team manages these connected scopes across multiple locations, projects run more smoothly and communities get better results.
We're committed to evolving with our clients' needs, finding new ways to simplify complex projects, and continuing to raise the bar for what's possible in outdoor recreation spaces across North and Central Texas.
Looking Forward: Our Commitment to North and Central Texas
As we celebrate eight years and look toward the future, we're filled with excitement about the opportunities ahead. The communities we serve continue to grow and evolve, and we're committed to growing alongside them.
Every project we complete teaches us something new about what communities need, what challenges our clients face, and how we can serve them better. We're listening, learning, and investing in the capabilities that will help us deliver even greater value in the years to come. The relationships we've built with our clients (landscape architects, municipalities, schools, developers, and fellow professionals) drive us to continuously improve and expand what we can offer.
Our vision remains clear: to be the partner that makes complex outdoor recreation projects simpler, more efficient, and more successful. Whether you're planning a playground design and construction project for a neighborhood park, school, church, or community recreation area, we want to be the team that helps bring your vision to life with quality, expertise, and genuine partnership.
To everyone who has been part of our journey over these eight years, thank you. To those we'll work with in the future, we're ready to bring the same dedication, innovation, and commitment to excellence that has defined our first eight years.
Let's connect and create something meaningful together.
